MADE & MAKING

MAKE IT // Map Wall

As you have probably guessed by now, I am a sucker for a quick easy change to a wall. I get bored pretty easy, so I want to be able to change it whenever I want. This is just the thing.

After the DOT WALL DIY, I decided to change more in our new house. The loo is a relatively boring place, but because it tends to be a tiny room, you can go a little crazy with it. I bought this old map book from a thrift store a few years back, with this exact intention, to make a wall out of it, and finally the day came. Blutack in hand, I worked out a sequence to cover the wall and got my diy on. Easy peasy. New wall of knowledge.

Until next time.

MAKE IT // hand drawn cup

Sometimes you need to just take a bit of time out from a manic day and draw on a mug. So that is exactly what I did. As you know, we are moving, so I have been packing and living in a city of boxes. Which drives me crazy. And in domino fashion, the husband too.

As I was packing I found these plain mugs that I bought months ago with the grand intention of drawing on.  Like usual, everything else got in the way. Not today. I pulled the notional middle finger at packing, and sat down to draw the crap out of that mug.

This is what you will need //

A plain mug

A porcelaine pen, I picked mine up at an emporium. But craft stores have them too.

Pencil

First, make sure that mug is nice and clean so that the pen will stick. Then draw out in a piece of paper what you want on the mug, that way you can muck up the paper, not the mug.  I drew inspiration form this tattoo with a line from city and colour’s song  ‘As much as I ever could’. But you can do whatever you choose. Obviously.

I then penciled in general outlines on the mug, the pencil comes of easy, but helps you keep proportion, somewhat . Finally, get that porcelain pen and go for it. Once that is done let is dry for 24 hours, then bake at 180 C, or whatever your specific pen tells you to.

Then have a cuppa with your bangin’ new mug.

Until next time.

I bloody love me a good list. I write lists till the cows come home. About anything. Any excuse to write a list is good enough for me. Even if it is not a very good reason. I will be there. Pen and paper in hand. And if you have a clip board, sheesh. I am done for.

Being as you are all so grand, and I believe the world could do with more lists. Here is a printable I made just for you. Just click HERE to download. So go on, get your your list on.

MAKE IT // terrarium

IMG_5289

A few weeks ago, I shared photos of the fabulous. Yes, Fabulous, Annie O’s terrarium workshop at Studio 46.

Coming home, I was all inspired to finally getting around to making my own.

I have had the vessel for quite some time, I picked it up at a garage sale in Hawkes Bay for a couple of bucks. And old mate jesus, who I spray painted. And finally I headed to get my little mates to go inside. Coromandel Cacti. Heaven. Rows and rows of succulent & cacti goodness, from the cute tiny to the bloody massive. And all as chip as chips.

I picked myself out couple of Aloe variegata and a big old Sedum rubrotinctum or jelly bean plant.

Both are hardy and robust, so they don’t mind if they are ignored by their plant mother.

I also got me some cacti soil, that has bits and pieces that they like, and some small pebbles.

So, this isn’t a tutorial as such, it is more like a ‘see, I made one, and you can too, and they are nice and fun to have around the house.’ kind of thing.

Brilliant, get your green thumbs out & let them have a party.
